Good morning. As you may have noticed, it’s been snowing. If you haven’t noticed: just so you know, it’s been snowing.

University of Canterbury campus is closed for the day, and busses won’t be running for at least the morning. Because of this, the SAGA AGM tonight is postponed until next Tuesday the 23rd of August. In addition, you won’t be able to get into Kirkwood Village, so regular gaming is cancelled for tonight as well.

Minicon for this year is a go! We’ve got confirmation of room bookings and by popular demand, it’s at the College of Education!

3rd and 4th of September, Saturday and Sunday 8am to 7pm, both days Otakaro Building

That’s two days, TWO DAYS, of gaming awesomeness folks.

Anyone interested in running large scale board games or even RP one-offs and want to advertise the fact before hand, let me know and we’ll advertise it!

For those of you interested, there are plans to rerun the Saga Inc Fruit Intiative (SIFI), but this can’t go ahead without donations to the fund. So, if you are intending on coming to Minicon and want some handy, dandy fruit around to munch on, email secretary@saga.org.nz and tell me how much you want to commit to the fund.

Also, since Saga has become -far- more accurate at predicting earthquakes then certain Auckland based individuals, we’ll be taking a collection for a donation to the Red Cross. Or the start of a warchest for a campaign against the Molemen.

Hey folks. We’ll be holding our AGM soon:

  • Date: Tuesday August 16, 6:30PM
  • Place: KD07, Kirkwood Village

We’ll be summing up the year and looking for committee members for next year. We’ll need committed folks in the positions of president, secretary, treasurer, promotions officer and quartermaster.

The meeting shouldn’t take more than an hour, so if you’ve got a game running that night you should be able to get into it around 7:30pm.

Hi folks. More booking changes for the club.

We are now in rooms KD07 and KD08 for both Tuesday and Thursday. These are both teaching rooms as opposed to computer rooms, so this should mean more tables and chairs for all of us!

These changes will appleapply from tomorrow (Thursday 14th of July) onwards.

Hey folks, news on the bookings front.

This week we have multiple rooms for Tuesday and we even have a booking on Thursday for our poor neglected off-day gamers.

The bookings are:

  • Tuesday: Kirkwood Village KG3 and KG4
  • Thursday: Kirkwood Village KG4

For directions to Kirkwood Village, and the layout of the rooms, check here.

Catch you tomorrow night at Kirkwood Village!

Hey folks. As you may have heard from other sources, this year the UoC Sci-Fi Soc are organising one big convention to encompass all the slightly nerdy clubs on campus – UC Gaming Guild, SFS, Anime Soc, and, of course, SAGA.

This event will be taking place on September 17-18 in the College of Education. We have a couple of rooms assigned for our various activities between 10am and 10pm. These activities may include (but are not necessarily limited to) board gaming, roleplaying, live action, and other miscellaneous games. As I see it, it’s also our chance to expose the nerdy side of UoC students to gaming and our club, which is always a bonus.

However, it isn’t possible to do this alone! I’m looking for volunteers to help with the event. We don’t need you to do a heap – even an hour or two helping out in the board gaming room will help us. Since we’re not organising the event as a whole, we have a relatively easy job, just getting to put on the events we want.

I’m looking for people in the following roles:

  • Board Games helper: hanging out in the board games room, helping people who are new to board gaming pick and play games.
  • GM: running a game or two over the weekend.
  • LARP writer: writing and running a Live Action roleplay in the facilities provided (we don’t have a huge amount of room, so a LARP for 5-10 people is fine).
  • Other events: got an idea for something you want to try out? Now’s your chance.
  • Organiser: someone to help me with making sure it all runs smoothly.

While I can’t guarantee there will be some form of renumeration for event helpers, if I can, I’ll make sure you get something for your time. If you might be interested, either email me or come say hi on SAGA nights (Tuesdays in Erskine 101 as usual).

Some people may be interested in this:

Until the 4th of July, grab Apocalypse World, Dogs in the Vineyard, In a Wicked Age, Poison’d, Kill Puppies for Satan and Mechaton in PDF format for USD25. Not a bad little deal.

Hey folks. Word from the UCSA is that we can use Erskine 101 for our gaming needs on Tuesday nights. It’s not the largest location ever, but it’s heated!

For those of you who are unfamiliar with the University layout, the Erskine building is located on the corner of Engineering and Science Road. You can get there by heading north up Ilam Road from the UCSA building and turning down Science Road.

We’re currently seeing if we can get another room or two for use. More news here as we find out.

Hey folks. As you may have noticed, we just had a rather big aftershock in the Christchurch area. The University has been closed until further notice, and they’ve said they’ll get in contact with us by 5pm today.

Until then, we won’t know if we have space for SAGA tomorrow night. If you are running a game tomorrow night, I suggest you find alternative arrangements – we can’t guarantee we will be able to give you a place to play.

Sorry for the inconvenience – it’s just the earth hates us.

UPDATE: The University will be closed for the 14th of June – therefore, SAGA is cancelled tomorrow night. Sorry, guys!

Hey folks. If you signed up to Buckets of Dice you will by now be aware of the SAGA Inc. Fruit Initiative, codenamed SI-FI. The plan is to collect a bunch of money to buy snacks of the fruity variety for the convention itself, and to offer said fruit, free of charge, to our attendees.

I’m glad to say that with signups for Buckets closed (holy crap is it this weekend already) we have had a grand total of $85 pledged to the fruit-like cause, which should guarantee a whole heaping of fruit for our attendees over the course of the weekend.

If you want to help out, it’s not too late! We’ll have a box on the desk for donations to the cause over the weekend, and you can drop money in to provide us with even more fruit. Our plan is to get you so stuffed full of healthy snacks that you don’t go for the unhealthy ones, so we’ll see how much fruit we need to do that.

Catch you on Saturday! Remember, we’re starting at 9:00 am at St Paul’s Church Hall in Papanui (the southern end of Harewood Road).
