Vampire the Requiem
This game is set in middle ages France, and the premise is:
The nights of France are unified under a shadowy group called the Council, a group of vampire elders who will do anything to remain in power.
Things have been stable for decades, with any dissent ruthlessly quashed. The Council have decided that it is time to expand again.
Forces are mobilizing, spies and diplomats dispatched, it is time to move agains the fractured 'Holy Roman Empire', with their divided leadership.
Some, however, are not as cowed as the Council thinks, and while the Council's forces are commited elsewhere have decided to seize some measure of power for themselves.
In the rich and defensible Silver Valley the most vocal discontent gather and overthrow the Council appointed lackeys and send notice to the Council: "We will no longer bow to your rule!"
The Council is in a precarious position, they have little in the way of forces avaliable to quash this rebellion, and yet the longer they delay the hared it will be to do so. There is one other problem: what will happen if other provinces see this rebellion succed?
With little in they way of options, the Council decides it must send in a small force to deal with this from the inside, a force able to deal with the problem any whay they see how, the only thing the Council cares about is succes.
You are one of those the Council choses. You have the necessary power, the necessary connections. Although you may not be trust worthy (after all, who is?), the Council has decided that the reward they promise will be more than enough to keep you in hand.
