About SAGA

Wait, so, who are you?

SAGA Inc. is the University of Canterbury’s gaming club. Our aim is to encourage the hobby of gaming, including but not limited to role-playing games, war games, board games, and card games, and to aid our members in the pursuit of these hobbies. SAGA is a social club where you can meet other people who share the same interests as you.

Our club focuses on role-playing and board gaming, though our members are into many adjacent hobbies as well, and we meet twice weekly to catch up and play games. The length and scope of any RPG can vary depending on what you’re looking for, be it a fun one-off game or a campaign that takes a year or two to complete. The board games vary from 30 minutes or less to all night games. In addition to our regular twice weekly meetings, we have MiniCons four times throughout the year, as well as our largest gaming weekend, Buckets of Dice, and collaborations with other clubs.

Okay, and when do you normally meet?

We meet Tuesday and Thursday in the Jack Erskine Building on the Main Campus of UC, from 6pm to 10pm. Board games are set up in room 244, and spaces are available for RPG groups on a first come, first served basis. We also have a room available on Saturdays from 9am to 10pm, for longer games – more information about this is available in our Discord.

We have rooms booked for the whole year until 21st December, apart from exam weeks and public holidays. Any temporary room changes are posted on our Discord and Facebook page.

You got any cool, bigger events?

Our MiniCons are run one per uni break, and are smaller, friendlier events, with role-playing games usually coordinated through our Facebook “Looking for Group” page and our Discord, and the majority of our board games available throughout the Con. They run from early evening Friday to late night Sunday, with specific dates and locations announced closer to the dates.

Our annual convention, Buckets of Dice, takes place in the mid-year break and runs from early evening Friday to mid-afternoon Monday. As with our MiniCons, our board game collection is available for you to choose from during the whole convention, and we hold mini events (previously including a quiz, and a Magic: The Gathering draft) across the weekend.

In addition to these, SAGA is involved with a number of one-off events throughout the year – keep an eye on our socials to hear more about these!
